The Journal of Light Construction, Craftsman Book Company, 2002.
Paperback, 8.5"x11", 266 pages.
This is a special book because it is written with a sense of history, experience, and knowledge of modern materials. Gary Katz begins his book with a review of the classical orders - the ancient Greek Doric, Ionic and Corinthian column orders. He then explains how these orders influence modern styles of baseboard, window and door trim and crown molding. This is a nice introduction to the art and craft of finish carpentry.
In subsequent chapters, Gary gives a nice survey of tools, materials, and techniques that will help in the design, layout, and actual construction of all the finish details in a modern home.
Enjoy this book.
