Position Overview:

You will thrive in this role if you are both an ambitious self-starter and a collaborative team player working closely with the Shelter Tools team and customers of all types. As Shelter continues to rapidly grow, so will this role!

We are seeking an energetic and driven Retail Associate to hit the ground running and evolve into a tool expert and customer service champion. You will use your genuine enthusiasm, exceptional communication skills, and proactive problem-solving abilities to help customers find the right tools for their projects. You will rapidly learn our product lines and autonomously handle customer interactions from initial inquiries through completed sales and beyond. As your familiarity with our tools and operations expands, so will your ownership of increasingly complex retail responsibilities and customer relationships.

This role combines hands-on retail operations with meaningful customer education and support. If you thrive in dynamic environments and have a genuine passion for helping people succeed in their building projects, this is your opportunity to shape the customer experience at Shelter Tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pick and pack online orders
  • Help customers in our brick and mortar retail store
  • Answer the phone and help customers with a variety of questions or potentially problems
  • Occasionally give customers tours of our campus
  • Write down customer information to pass along to other team members in the business

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of retail, customer service, or related experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts in accessible terms
  • Physical ability to lift 40+ pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for order fulfillment accuracy
  • Proficiency with computers and ability to learn new software systems quickly
  • Enthusiasm for learning about tools and building techniques
  • Flexibility to work weekends and varying shifts as needed

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, or building/construction
  • Previous experience in hardware retail or tool sales
  • Knowledge of traditional building crafts or woodworking
  • Experience with e-commerce order fulfillment
  • Interest in sustainable building practices
  • Bilingual capabilities
